I attended a funeral today for a sweet friend’s grandma. Now my friend had a unique relationship with Grandma (it was her husband’s grandma). Grandminator as she affectionately called her was 89 years old. My friend had been taking care of her for as long as we’ve been friends (over 3 years): grocery shopping, hair appointments, doctor appointments, errands in general.
With her age, came heath issues and my friend (an RN) was taking care of those also. The last three months Grandma had really been failing and my friend’s responsibilities were increased. In fact during the month of December we were out of touch for weeks!
Don’t worry another friend and I kidnapped her for some starbucks and conversation!
Anyway, last week Grandma started calling my friend "Hazel. " Now this is not my friend’s name, nor is it anyone in the family’s name! So she was stumped, but didn’t question.
Tuesday “Hazel” was with her mother-in-law and Grandma enjoying some sweet memories before Grandma went home. In between tears and hysteria my friend remarked “All I want to know is who Hazel is!?” My friend’s mother-in-law replied “You don’t know!?! Well, that was Grandma’s best friend for years.”
What a gift from God that Grandma thought of my friend as her best friend. God is always so good to give us those moments of refreshing even in the hardest times.
My friend will forever be my Hazel!

Momma Lion,
ReplyDeleteThat was a tremendous article about Hazel. You got talent there girl that I have never seen in the past 10 1/2 years. Next thing you know you'll be writing books and preaching sermons.
Love, Grandpa M
That is so, so sweet. And, like you said, what a special gift from God for her. And, an encouragement to her that all her work and selfless giving were appreciated, not just by Grandminator, but by God, too. She's adding bling to her crown! :-)
