Five

My little boy turns five tomorrow. It doesn't seem right.

When we moved to Texas from Oregon, he had just turned one. He was younger than Kate is now. He has spent more of his life in Texas than in the state he was born.

My little boy is going next door now days to play. He's smarter than he should be, remembers everything, and hears every word we whisper. He's just bigger than he's supposed to be.

Remember Little Lion, when he was little? He's five in ten hours.

We'd love to hear your first memories of Little Lion.

  1. Yes that Little Lion has certainly grown alot since that evening at Mercy Hospital when I first laid eyes on him. From the days I held him and walked around our house to the trips to the duck ponds by Fred Meyer, and being so proud of him at church. He's five now, and before you know it he will be 15 and driving. I just pray that he will grow to be like his daddy being fully committed to the Lord and to the family that God will surely give him some day.
Glad I'm not writing this on paper because it would get all smudged with the water drops from my eyes.
Love you and wish we culd be thre to celebrate his 5th birthday like we were on his first.

  4. My heart is FLOODED with memories!
-- he was so tiny but had big hands as all his pictures showed.
-- having him with me almost every day for the first year of his life was a GREAT privilege I still treasure.
    -- He was/is a happy child.
-- He would sit quietly in the afternoons when I babysat him and let me read to him for a long time.
-- He tells me frequently that he loves me.
-- He says I am his "cushy" grandma and gives me lots of hugs and kisses.
-- We had/have fun playing with playdough together.
-- I love you BLAKE MYERS! Happy Big 5.
Wish we could be there for your Birthday Party. Our hearts are there!

  5. Well, where oh where do I start? I believe it was five years ago now that I held your hand Christy as you continued to do your breathing. Mark took just a little nap, a little one. He was so sweet to you. You were so brave and strong during your labor. Blake had that long swirl of hair that the midwife kept playing with while you were pushing. You were wanting to give up, but we knew you could do it. And do it you did. I fell in love with that little boy the moment I laid eyes on him. He was beautiful. I waited what seemed like an eternity for you to tell me what it was you had chosen as his name. Blake...A little boy I will never forget. I so enjoyed spending the first year of his life with you. We decorated that adorable little room of his, and he was such a good baby. He was so fun. Happy Birthday my sweet little boy. You will always hold a very special place in my heart.

  6. Happy Birthday sweet boy! Although we have been in Mommy and Daddy's life a relatively short amount of time, we've now officially been in your life...for most of it! My first memory of you is this blond haired, grin from ear to ear, unbelievably chatty 2 year old. We had just moved here, and your mommy was one of the first people I spoke with. Her words "we'll get you hooked up...we'll find you friends!"...something to that effect. Who would've thought that the first person I met would become one of my closest pals. And then there is you and Alligator. It was love at first sight. I think you are the only one who can "handle" her. When I think of you, I think....LOVE. You are FULL of it. You love everyone you see, and you are quite contagious with your happiness. Your are tenderhearted and thoughtful ALREADY!!! I'm so proud of you little lion for the boy you are and am excited to watch you grow with each year. We love you!

  7. My first/most vivid memory -- Sitting in the rocking chair in the living room in Oregon at about 1 am...just me and Little Lion :o) He was just as sweet then as he is now.

PS. We saw a Pirate Ship cake that would be perfect for your number 5 :0)

Happy Birthday Little Lion I love you so much!!!

  8. My first memory would be the morning you called me to say he is here!! AND I really wanted to know what you had named him since we had talked EVERY day for you whole pregnancy about names and everything else! I rushed up to the hospital to meet him and he was just precious! Have loved watching him grow into such a wonderful little boy! Happy Birthday (not so Little Lion)
